THE MOVIES: Iron Man vs. Speed Racer vs. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian vs. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull vs. Sex and the City: The Movie
THE ANALYSIS: Wow, looking at May gives me a reason to survive everything that comes before it. I think I’m going to end up liking Speed Racer but I don’t see it catching on with Joe Public… unless it pulls a 300 style visual effects miracle off. I’m going to love Iron Man, you’re going to love Iron Man, but can it catch fire? After all, the best in genre Batman Begins only clocked $371m worldwide, a pittance against the big franchises. The footage I saw of Narnia at Comic-Con reminded me of Rozerem, my prescription sleep aid.
Which leaves the biggies. The ladies love Sex and the City. But does it strike you as a movie the lucrative single male dollar will flock to? Prolly not. Finally, Everyone grew up on Indy Jones, even going so far as to buy the VHS set at McDonald’s in 1993. But no Sean Connery… and Harrison Ford is no longer Harrison Ford. He’s the shell of Mr. Ford. So, though May looks interesting each film has at least minor issues. But we’re not paid to point out minor issues, we’re paid to write about ourselves in the royal third person, and to pick winners! So then…
EVENTUAL WINNER: I’m taking Indy Jones overall. Iron Man will technically make the most dollars in May, as it debuts first, but Jones should clear the $750m worldwide it will take to pass Narnia.
