THE MOVIES: The Happening vs. The Incredible Hulk
THE ANALYSIS: Oh yeah, it’s M. Night. Shymamamamalan versus a boy named Ed Norton. That’s juicy, like the pants the gals with tramp stamps wear. Only one problem: Mr. Night hasn’t made any money since 2004. That’s a spell. Plus this version of the Hulk concept finally seems to be what the people want. When Norton was talking about it this summer he basically went out of his way to say “I don’t have any idea what Ang Lee was thinking.” So I’d expect a much less introspective, much more ME LIKE HULK style Hulk-a-mania. That’s just what the box office doctor ordered, eh?
EVENTUAL WINNER: Zooey is in The Happening and regular readers know that I have an irrational and occasionally scary love for her. It won’t be enough though, Shyamalan has done too much to hurt his rep in the past few years. Look for Hulk to have more theaters and thus more opening weekend dollars.
