2007 WRAP-UP: Brad’s Look Back

With all of my top tens posted I felt there were still things to discuss concerning the past year. So, I felt I should also give a complete look back at the year that was and a tiny glimpse at the year to come (much like I did for 2006). Because Top Ten lists never cover everything.

MISCELLANEOUS AWARDS

Best Movie Poster: The Bourne Ultimatum International Poster

Biggest Letdown: Transformers – While I have come to mildly enjoy this film for what it is I have to admit that when I saw it in theaters I was expecting a kick ass dark and adult ride. Unfortunately I was greeted with stupid one liners and robots trying to avoid being seen by parents.

Best Movie Quotes:

Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men:

What’s the most you ever lost on a coin toss?

Ronald Fleury from The Kingdom:

I told her we are going to kill them all.

Doorman from Knocked Up:

I know… you’re right. I’m so sorry, I fuckin’ hate this job. I don’t want to be the one to pass judgement, decide who gets in. Shit makes me sick to my stomach, I get the runs from the stress. It’s not cause you’re not hot, I would love to tap that ass. I would tear that ass up. I can’t let you in cause you’re old as fuck. For this club, you know, not for the earth.

You old, she pregnant. Can’t have a bunch of old pregnant bitches running around. That’s crazy, I’m only allowed to let in five percent black people. He said that, that means if there’s 25 people here I get to let in one and a quarter black people. So I gotta hope there’s a midget in the crowd.

Most Overrated Movie: Juno – This is easily the most overrated movie of the year as everyone has fallen in love with a bunch of one-liners.

Most Underrated Movie: Stardust – There was absolutely no real chance to market this film considering the storyline is one massive epic adventure. Hopefully it finds a large audience on DVD because it is a film you should not miss.

Best Marketing: Cloverfield – Come on, the “What the hell was that?” trailer had the Internet buzzing for months and then Paramount rightly shut the hell up and slowly let more out of the bag as opposed to feeding the beast a la Snakes on a Plane.

Worst Marketing: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford – First off, what the fuck is up with the ten year long title? That hurts your marketing chances from the git-go. Then again I guess when you decide not to market a film at all it doesn’t matter what it is called.

Best Nudity: The best nudity of the year comes courtesy of Marisa Tomei in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. How the hell they convinced her to get naked for no reason whatsoever is beyond me, but at least there is that one sliver of a reason to watch that awful movie.

My Favorite Article That I Wrote in 2007: Why I’m Not Excited about ‘Spider-Man 3’

What We Don’t Need in 2008: Anything starring Jessica Simpson. Anything directed by Eli Roth. Videogame adaptations.

Best Movie News Website: For a second year in a row it’s RopeofSilicon.com!

Biggest Marketing Fuck Up: Uh… Captivity (details).

Worthless Celebrity Award: This one goes to Britney Spears and her endless stream of stupidity.

Biggest Entertainment Story of 2007 (and probably 2008): The WGA writers strike.

Movie I Most Want to See in 2008: I guess it has to be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but I can’t help but crave seeing The Dark Knight, The Happening, RocknRolla, James Bond 22, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road and Star Trek.

Happy New Year All!
