Trio Tapped for ‘G.I. Joe’ and Confirmed

Tired of all the G.I. Joe casting rumors as of late? Well, rest easy, The Hollywood Reporter finally has an official announcement for us and it includes one familiar name you have already heard and two new ones.

The article confirms Rachel Nichols will indeed play Scarlett, a skilled martial artist who specializes in hand-to-hand combat and counterintelligence as previously rumored. However there is no mention of the rumored involvement of Korean star Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow.

However, the two other names you may recognize as Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, recently featured on “Lost” as Mr. Eko. Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be playing Heavy Duty, which was rumored earlier today to be a role Marlon Wayans may be looking at, good to hear that wasn’t true.

The other new name is The Kite Runner‘s Said Taghmaoui who will play Breaker, the team’s communications specialist.

These three join already cast Sienna Miller as Baroness and Ray Park as Storm Shadow.

G.I. Joe will be directed by Stephen Sommers and is expected to hit theaters in August 2009.
