How many long gestating films are we going to hear about getting greenlit in the coming month as the Writers Guild aims at a premptive strike to thwart the studio’s plans to declare their strike moot? Along with a fourth Terminator, Thundercats and Justice League, it is time a comedy flick that has been talked about forever get in the mix as Universal greenlights Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell with a March start date planned. The deciding factor in the move was apparently due to the production budget being cut from $125 million to $100 million. Probably a good move after the disappointing $160 million Evan Almighty.
Brad Silberling is set to direct the adaptation of the television show revolving around a disgraced paleontologist, his assistant and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey people and reptilian Sleestaks. For $100 million I wonder if they will get actual Sleestaks! Oh boy! At one point Kirsten Dunst and Jack Black were also attached to star.
Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas scripted the pic.
