Universal Picks up ‘Hellboy 2’ for 2008 Release

Only a couple of weeks ago Guillermo del Toro told an audience at Comic-Con that “the second screenplay [for Hellboy 2] is so beautiful and it takes the characters to such great places that I hope we do it.” Unfortunately at that time the movie had bounced from Columbia Pictures to Paramount Pictures to a void where it had no home. That news changed today as Universal Pictures is aboard to fully finance and distribute the sequel to the 2004 Dark Horse Comic adaptation.

The film is slotted for a summer 2008 release from the del Toro penned script which will have Ron Perlman returning as Hellboy and Selma Blair back as the horned hero’s pyrokinetic love interest.

The storyline is yet to be revealed.
