So What is ‘Rambo IV’ All About?

For those of you that were shocked that Sylvester Stallone is once again starring as Rocky Balboa in Rocky Balboa, a.k.a. Rocky VI, then you probably didn’t also know that he was continuing with the theme of ‘going back to his roots’ as he will also be bringing Rambo back to the big screen with Rambo IV. Those of you that already knew that are now asking me to move it along.

Well, Entertainment Weekly has dropped some info on the upcoming fourth film, here are the necessary bits of info:

Rambo IV (final title to be determined) is finally expected to commence Oct. 1 in Thailand.

Rambo has yet to land a domestic distributor.

In terms of a villain Stallone was quoted as saying, “I called Soldier of Fortune magazine and said, ‘What is the most critical man-doing-inhumanity-to-man situation right now in the world? Where is it?'” The answer was Burma.

With those things said Entertainment Weekly gives us this as the synopsis based on the first draft of the script penned by Stallone and Art Monterastelli:

…finds Rambo living a monastic lifestyle in Bangkok and salvaging old PT boats and tanks for scrap metal. (“It’s like he’s stripping himself down,” says the actor, pensively. “That old piece of military equipment.”) When a group of volunteers bringing supplies into Burma disappears, a relative of one of the missing missionaries begs Rambo to find them. He heads off with a team of young guns, a plot point required by the financiers, who wanted to hedge against Rambo’s possible mono-generational appeal.

Who knows, after Rocky in December fans may be clammoring for more Sly in 2007, we will just have to wait and see.
