Ken Watanabe and Kate Hudson have signed on to star in the epic romance A Dream of Red Mansions for director Bruce Beresford. The script was penned by Donald Martin and was inspired by a true story.
The pic is set against the backdrop of the Chinese Revolution in 1949. Hudson plays an American photojournalist who falls for an idealistic revolutionary (Watanabe).
Production is scheduled to start in October in Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
