Production begins on The Sense of an Ending as first set pics emerge

CBS Films announced today that it has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to The Sense of an Ending from FilmNation Entertainment, and we have the first on-set images from the location shooting underway in London, featuring three-time Emmy nominated “Downton Abbey” actress Michelle Dockery. Check out the photos of Dockery wearing a prosthetic baby bump in the gallery below!

The Sense of an Ending, which was developed by BBC Films and Origin Pictures, is being directed by Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) from a screenplay by award-winning playwright Nick Payne based on Julian Barnes’ Man Booker Prize-winning bestseller and produced by David Thompson and Ed Rubin (Woman In Gold). The film stars Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (Iris), Charlotte Rampling (Melancholia), Harriet Walter (The Young Victoria), Emily Mortimer (Hugo), Michelle Dockery (Non-Stop), Billy Howle (The Seagull), Freya Mavor (The White Queen) and Joe Alywn (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk).

Tony Webster (Broadbent) leads a reclusive and quiet existence until long buried secrets from his past force him to face the flawed recollections of his younger self, the truth about his first love and the devastating consequences of decisions made a lifetime ago.

“’The Sense of an Ending’ represents a perfect storm of creative talent,” commented CBS Films President Terry Press. “It combines a superb cast led by the incomparable Jim Broadbent, the exceptional taste of FilmNation, BBC Films and Origin, and the beautiful talents of director Ritesh Batra whom we have been hoping to work with since audiences fell in love with ‘The Lunchbox.’”

FilmNation Entertainment, BBC Films and LipSync are financing the film. Christine Langan and Ed Wethered from BBC Films, Ben Browning and Glen Basner from FilmNation Entertainment, and Norman Merry from LipSync Productions are serving as Executive Producers on the film. Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Scott Shooman and Executive Vice President of Business Affairs Jack Bleck negotiated the deal on behalf of CBS Films. Avy Eschenasy of Eschenasy Consulting and WME Global negotiated on behalf of FilmNation Entertainment.
