Pixar’s Inside Out Wins 4th of July Weekend over Jurassic World After All!

Yesterday, when we reported the 4th of July weekend box office, Universal Pictures had claimed a victory with their summer blockbuster Jurassic World over Disney•Pixar’s animated hit Inside Out, but in a classic case of “don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” the actual box office numbers for the weekend tell a different story.

According to actual box office receipts, it’s looking like Inside Out actually narrowly defeated Jurassic World with both of them making less than $30 million over the weekend. Inside Out grossed $29.8 million over the three-day weekend and $45.1 million including Wednesday and Thursday, bringing its domestic total to $245.8 million. Meanwhile, Jurassic World ended up with $29.2 million over the three-day weekend and $42.1 million for the five days including Wednesday and Thursday.

They still remain in the #1 and 2 position over the newbies Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL

This adjustment means that Inside Out can no longer claim the record for the top-grossing movie never to hit #1, a record which remains safely with the indie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, although it’s on its way to becoming one of the top grossing movies from Pixar Animation. It should pass Monsters, Inc.Monsters University and The Incredibles sometime in the next week.
