James Gunn celebrates David Corenswet’s birthday in true Superman fashion
Gunn took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo from the set of Superman on July 8. In it, Corenswet could be seen dressed up as the Man of Steel, appearing to have a conversation with Gunn. He wrote in the caption, “To our Superman. Happy birthday @corenswet!”
Fans flooded the comment section with wishes and showcased excitement for Superman 2, aka Man of Tomorrow. A user wrote, “Why not drop a suit reveal to celebrate…..” Another added, “Happy birthday to the best Superman ever.” A third one mentioned, “HAPPY BDAY TO THAT GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL MAN.” A fourth one jokingly added, “Hope the cake doesn’t melt from that heat vision.” Other reactions included “Cook well with Man of Tomorrow” and “Thank you for hiring a man who embodies the character both on and off screen. Can’t wait for MOT and more.”
Earlier, on the JM Video Club series (via Konbini), Gunn revealed that after watching Pearl, he thought that maybe Corenswet could be fit for the role of Superman. He then searched the actor on IMDb and requested to summon him. The filmmaker said that Corenswet and other actors came in for the auditions. While he had someone as his top contender for the role, they didn’t make the cut. Later, he watched Corenswet’s tape, instantly perceiving it as “amazing” and “funny.”
The upcoming 2027 superhero movie features Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Milly Alcock, Lars Eidinger, and others. It will center around Lex Luthor and Superman forcefully teaming up to deal with one common threat: the superintelligent alien android Brainiac.
