Anya Taylor-Joy calls playing Seren in The Hunt for Gollum a dream come true
Anya Taylor-Joy has spoken about joining The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum for the first time. The actress shared her excitement in a video posted by Rotten Tomatoes on X. She plays Seren, an original Elven character created specifically for the upcoming film.
Taylor-Joy expressed a deep personal connection to the role during the interview. “I feel like I’ve been an elf my whole life, so it feels very validating to go and actually be able to do it as a job,” she said. She also praised the film’s director with clear enthusiasm throughout her comments.
The actress called the opportunity a career highlight and spoke highly of Andy Serkis. “I’m a huge fan of Lord of the Rings. I’m a huge fan of Andy Serkis,” Taylor-Joy stated. She added that she considers him “a wonderful man and a wonderful, innovative creator.”
Taylor-Joy also described the role as something she had long hoped for in her career. “Being able to be a part of this world and to inhabit this character is a dream come true,” she shared. Warner Bros. had previously confirmed her casting through a motion poster released in June 2026.
Seren is described as a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a trusted agent of King Thranduil. The character does not appear in any of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original works. She reportedly serves as a new ally to Aragorn on his quest in the film. Taylor-Joy joins a cast that includes Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf and Jamie Dornan as Aragorn. Other confirmed cast members include Elijah Wood, Lee Pace, Kate Winslet, and Leo Woodall.
The Hunt for Gollum arrives exclusively in theaters on December 17, 2027.
