Masters of the Universe’s director just betrayed his own hero in the most hilarious way possible. Nicholas Galitzine and Travis Knight debated whether He-Man could beat Superman in an interview ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
He-Man star and director debate over who wins
Nicholas Galitzine and director Travis Knight clashed over He-Man’s strength compared to Superman in a WIRED interview.
The Masters of the Universe stars answered the 50 most-searched questions about the franchise. The debate quickly turned into a playful argument between the lead actor and his director. Galitzine firmly sided with He-Man when asked about the matchup. “He is, and it’s proven in the DC comics that he beat Superman in a one-on-one fight,” Galitzine said.
Knight immediately pushed back against his star’s claim. “No, he’s not, but you have many other fine qualities,” the director responded.
Galitzine then challenged Knight’s position on the comic book canon directly. “What, you’re disagreeing with the DC lore?” Galitzine asked. Knight doubled down without hesitation. “Absolutely. Superman would mop the floor,” he replied.
The He-Man actor then took a jab at his director’s loyalties. “Are you trying to get a job directing the next Superman? What are you even saying right now?” Galitzine fired back. He continued defending He-Man’s title as “the most powerful man in the universe.” Knight dismissed the comic book evidence when pressed about the characters’ face-off.
“How do you explain the one time that they face off?” Galitzine asked. “I mean, it’s bullshit,” Knight responded bluntly. “According to who?” Galitzine pressed further. “Me,” Knight replied.
The playful rivalry continued throughout the interview as Galitzine listed Knight’s criticism among He-Man’s weaknesses. He also joked that Spielberg would direct the sequel instead of Knight.
Masters of the Universe opens exclusively in U.S. theaters on June 5, 2026. The film currently holds a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 53 on Metacritic.
