Hurt and Bello in Handkerchief

William Hurt and Maria Bello will topline Arthur Cohn’s remake of Japanese film Yellow Handkerchief, with shooting starting in Louisiana on March 22, reports Variety.

Udayan Prasad (My Son the Fanatic, Brothers in Trouble) is directing, and Chris Menges is the cinematographer. Eddie Redmayne also stars.

Schochiku’s original film, adapted from Pete Hamill’s novel “The Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness” was a major success in Japan and won six prizes at the Japanese Academy’s first award show in 1978.

The story is centered on a convict recently released from prison for an accidental murder who is considering returning to his ex-wife and his old life.
