Liam Neeson has shared an update regarding the upcoming Naked Gun remake.
Speaking with ComingSoon in an exclusive interview, Neeson was asked if he’s excited to show off his comedic chops in the new Naked Gun reboot. The Taken actor has previously cameoed in a number of television comedies such as Atlanta, Life’s Too Short, and Derry Girls.
“It has to be proven,” Neeson said. “Yeah. So I’m slightly nervous of it. A little Stephen Colbert sketch or Ricky Gervais, I’m okay because it’s short. But a whole film, we’ll see. We’ll see. But it’s a good script. Akiva Schafer from the world of SNL is co-writing and he’s the director. So we’ll see. We’re still in the casting process for the other parts, but the script, there’s some very funny laugh-out-loud moments.”
What do we know about the Naked Gun remake?
While a Naked Gun reboot led by Neeson has been in the works for some time, Paramount announced last month that the film would finally debut in July 2025.
Schaffer is directing and executive producing the remake. He also co-wrote the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, while Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing the movie.
According to Variety, the film will be based on the Naked Gun franchise as well as the television series Police Squad! Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Neeson has spoken about starring in the Naked Gun remake before. He told ComingSoon in 2022, “Well, I’m interested in comedy. Seth McFarlane has approached me about maybe, I think Paramount Studios had asked Seth, would he be interested in resurrecting in the Naked Gun series, or a film based on Naked Gun, so he asked me if I’d be interested in playing the Leslie Nielsen character, which are huge shoes to fill, so we’re hoping that’ll maybe come together in the next year or two years.”
The Naked Gun remake releases on July 18, 2025, from Paramount.
