Liarmouth: Aubrey Plaza To Lead John Waters’ New Movie Project

Legendary director John Waters, who hasn’t helmed a feature film since 2004, is set to start production for his latest film project, Liarmouth. The movie will reportedly star The White Lotus actress Aubrey Plaza

Liarmouth, an adaptation of Waters’ 2022 novel, serves as the director’s first film in 20 years after A Dirty Shame debuted back in 2004. According to World of Reel (via The Guardian), filming for Liarmouth will start later this year in Baltimore, Maryland.

Other details about the project remain under wraps, but the book — titled Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance — is billed as “a hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction.”

The novel, which can be purchased through Amazon, follows a woman named Marsha Sprinkle, who is a scammer and compulsive liar. The book’s synopsis describes Marsha as a woman who practically makes everyone hate her, even her own family.

The synopsis reads: “Marsha Sprinkle: Suitcase thief. Scammer. Master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her Liarmouth — until one insane man makes her tell the truth.”
