One of the recently announced actresses announced to be part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s cast has revealed that she’s playing Shadow the Hedgehog‘s friend Maria.
On Instagram, Alyla Browne posted an image of herself on the set of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with a jacket covering her costume and face. In the image, Browne is sitting in a chair with “Maria” written on it, confirming her role in the Paramount sequel.
Maria first appeared in the 2001 Sega Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2. In that game, she is the terminally ill granddaughter of Professor Gerald Robotnik and the cousin of Eggman himself. Maria was close friends with Shadow the Hedgehog, as they both lived on Space Colony ARK.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz is set to reprise his role as Sonic the Hedgehog. Details on the plot are sparse, but it will feature Shadow the Hedgehog — Sonic’s speedy rival who first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2. The film is set to release in theaters on December 20, 2024.
