Superman: Legacy has found its composer, with director and co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn revealing the news on social media.
Gunn took to Instagram to confirm that John Murphy would be the composer for the highly anticipated superhero movie. Murphy has a history with collaborating with a ton of high-profile directors, including Danny Boyle, Guy Ritchie, Michael Mann, Matthew Vaughn, and even James Gunn.
Most recently, Murphy worked with Gunn on both 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
Gunn is happy and excited to get to work with Murphy
In a statement, Gunn welcomed Murphy to the DCU and said Murphy is already hard at work on the score for the film.
“John was one of the first people I called when I finished the script many months ago as I knew how incredibly important the score was to this production,” said Gunn in his statement. “John has been working tirelessly since, creating hours worth of music that we’ll play on set as we shoot & use in the edit & that will eventually be recorded with a glorious symphony for all of you. Welcome to the DCU, John!”
The titular role in Superman: Legacy is being played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The film is set to release on July 11, 2025.
The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
