Friendship: Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, and Kate Mara to Star in New Comedy Movie

Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, and Kate Mara are starring in a new indie comedy, Friendship.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Robinson, Rudd, and Mara have all been tapped to star in Friendship, a new comedy directed by Andrew DeYoung.

Friendship is DeYong’s feature film directorial debut; however, he’s previously directed a number of short films and television episodes for series such as Dave, Shrill, Miracle Workers, PEN15, and Our Flag Means Death.

What is Friendship about?

“Friendship centers on a mild-mannered man named Craig, whose life is perfectly balanced, with Subway sandwiches and Marvel movies, a job he enjoys and a happy homelife with a wife and son,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description of the film reads. “That life is upended with the arrival into the neighborhood by a weatherman, played by Rudd. Mysterious yet friendly, macho but vulnerable, the weatherman transforms everything for Craig, but Craig’s obsessive and childlike nature threatens to ruin the friendship and possibly everything else in his life.”

J. D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are producing the movie with Fifth Season, while Tracy Rosenblum serves as executive producer.

Robinson is known for co-creating and starring in the Netflix comedy sketch series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. He also starred on Saturday Night Live before he then went on to make Detroiters with Sam Richardson, Zach Kanin, and Joe Kelly.

Rudd has starred in a number of comedies in the past, including 2001’s Wet Hot American Summer, 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, 2005’s The 40-Year-Old Virgin, 2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 2009’s I Love You, Man, 2012’s This Is 40, and more. He also plays Scott Lang/Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will next be seen in March 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Mara, meanwhile, is known for her roles in House of Cards and American Horror Story: Murder House. She’s appeared in films such as 2007’s Shooter, 2010’s 127 Hours, 2014’s Transcendence, 2015’s Fantastic Four, 2015’s The Martian, and 2018’s Chappaquiddick.

Friendship is now in production. The movie does not yet have a release date.
