Nutcrackers: Ben Stiller Tapped to Star in David Gordon Green’s New Movie

Ben Stiller has been tapped to star in David Gordon Green’s new movie, Nutcrackers.

Per Deadline, Stiller will play the lead role in Nutcrackers, a new movie that’s currently filming in Ohio from director David Gordon Green.

Stiller, who has minor roles in various movies over the past couple of years (including 2020’s Hubie Halloween and 2021’s Locked Down) but hasn’t led a film since 2017’s Brad’s Status, is also producing the movie through his Red Hour Films banner with Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, John Lesher, and Nate Meyer.

Nutcrackers is written by Leland Douglas. Deadline’s plot synopsis for the movie reads, “Nutcrackers follows the work-obsessed Mike (Stiller), who must reluctantly travel to rural Ohio to look after his four rambunctious nephews after their parents die in a car accident. What begins as a three-day trip to find foster care turns into weeks of farm-life mayhem – and the realization that he doesn’t need to find them a home, they’ve found one for him.”

Additional Nutcrackers casting has not been announced at this time. The movie does not yet have a release date.

What else has David Gordon Green made?

Green started his career making a handful of independent dramas such as 2000’s George Washington, 2004’s Undertow, and 2007’s Snow Angels. He moved into the world of comedy in 2008 with Pineapple Express, followed by 2011’s Your Highness and 2011’s The Sitter.

He went on to helm a new Halloween franchise for Blumhouse, which includes 2018’s Halloween, 2021’s Halloween Kills, and 2022’s Halloween Ends. Most recently, Green made 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, which was also released by Blumhouse. Two more Exorcist movies are currently being planned, though Green has not confirmed whether or not he’ll return to direct them.

Stiller, meanwhile, has been busy directing and executive producing Severance for Apple TV+. The hit series, which stars Adam Scott, was renewed for a second season in April 2022.
