Listen to an Exclusive Track from My Love Affair with Marriage

ComingSoon is delighted to present an exclusive track from the animated film My Love Affair with Marriage, featuring music by Kristian Sensini. Please listen to the track titled “Lion” below. MovieScore Media will release the single on November 22.

“Composing ‘Lion’ with Director Signe Baumane’s lyrics was a truly inspiring journey. Signe’s words beautifully depicted a story of strength and determination, and my goal was to translate these emotions into music. We worked closely to create a composition that would deepen the film’s emotional impact, aiming to resonate with the audience on a profound level. The song was designed to instill a sense of empowerment and reflect the protagonist’s journey, achieved by blending orchestral and electronic elements for a dynamic and emotionally charged piece. It was a rewarding creative process, and I’m genuinely proud of the final outcome. I hope the audience finds ‘Lion’ as moving as we did when we crafted it,” Sensini stated.

“Collaborating with the remarkable performer Storm Large was a privilege. Her commanding and emotive voice added a new dimension to the song, perfectly conveying the raw emotions and strength within the lyrics. Storm’s performance brought the song to life, forging a deep connection with the audience and elevating the film’s storytelling. Working alongside Storm was a fantastic experience, and her contribution played a pivotal role in making “Lion” a memorable and impactful musical piece.”

Director and lyricist Signe Baumane added, “Of all the 24 songs in the film, the lyrics for the end-credits song were the hardest to write. This last song had to sum up the film as well as give a hint of the future – what would Zelma do next, what is her plan D? Besides, it was clear that the song had to be written in a different style than the other 23 songs because unlike the others, this song is sung by Zelma. Composer Kristian Sensini and I decided that it should be in the style of a pop song. We both wanted the song to uplift the audience and to inspire them for hope and action. We wanted them to leave the cinema humming the song.

“For me as a lyricist, it was quite a challenge to have the discipline to organize all my wild ideas and half-finished thoughts into the rigid structure of a pop song. I struggled for weeks and weeks, unable to put words down. No words I wrote seemed to reflect what I wanted to say. The deadline was fast approaching. Then I thought – what is this moment at the end of the film for Zelma? She is standing between two worlds – the one of her past where she had made a lot of mistakes and she doesn’t want to repeat them anymore, and her brand new future with new ideas of how to live and love. In my mind, I saw an image of Zelma in a graveyard of her mistakes. The mistakes had hurt her, but now they are buried for good. “What does she feel, and what does she do now?” I asked myself. It was obvious that Zelma feels joy that she has survived her mistakes, and this joy prompts her to dance on the shiny gravestones. I could hear the heels of her shoes tapping in the rhythm of a tap dance – tip tap tip tippity tap – on the surface of a marble slab. The rest of the song flowed out from this image – Zelma dancing on the graves of her many mistakes, making a new path, her own path, toward her brand new future.”

The film’s synopsis reads, “Zelma, a spirited young woman, is unwavering in her pursuit to meet the expectations of embodying the Mythology Sirens through song, all in the pursuit of love. However, the more she strives to conform, the stronger her body’s resistance grows, leading to a story of inner female defiance.”
