We Bury the Dead: Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Cast in Survival Thriller From 1922 Director

Daisy Ridley has been cast in a new survival thriller, We Bury the Dead, from 1922’s Zak Hilditch.

According to a recent article from Deadline, Ridley will star as a character named Ava in Hilditch’s We Bury the Dead. The film follows Ava after her husband goes missing after a dangerous military experiment. Joining a retrieval unit in order to find her husband’s body, Ava is then horrified to find her the corpses she’s working with begin showing more signs of life than they should.

Neon and UTA Independent Film Group are bringing We Bury the Dead to the American Film Market, held from October 31 through November 5, 2023, in search of international and domestic sales. Umbrella Entertainment will distribute the movie in Australia. Filming is expected to take place in Australia in February 2024.

What else has Zak Hilditch made?

We Bury the Dead is written and directed by Hilditch, who previously directed 2017’s 1922, a Stephen King adaptation starring Thomas Jane and Molly Parker. Hilditch also made 2019’s Rattlesnake, 2013’s These Final Hours, and more.

Producing the movie are Kelvin Munro, Grant Sputore, Ross Dinerstein, Joshua Harris, and Mark Fasano, while Nathan Klingher and Ford Corbett serve as executive producers.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Zak and Campfire on this project,” Sputore said. “Zak is uniquely gifted when it comes to making movies that are just as moving as they are terrifying. Bringing one of his projects to our home state of Western Australia is especially exciting.”

Dinerstein added, “Zak is an immensely talented storyteller, and we’re ecstatic to reteam for our third feature together. With the brilliant Daisy Ridley onboard and Zak’s spectacularly unnerving and poignant script, we can’t wait to dig into production and bring this film to audiences.”

Ridley is known for playing Rey in the Star Wars franchise and will soon be reprising the role for an upcoming solo film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. She’s also starring in The Marsh King’s Daughter, which releases in theaters on November 2, 2023, from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
