Five Night's at Freddys sequel

Five Nights at Freddy’s Director Hopes to ‘Do More’ With Franchise if First Movie Succeeds

Five Nights at Freddy’s director Emma Tammi is hoping for a shot to do more with the franchise if the first film is a success.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Tammi said she “hopes to be able to do more” with the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.

Five Nights at Freddy’s has an estimated production budget of $25 million. According to Box Office Pro, Five Nights at Freddy’s is currently projected to make between $33-42 million during its opening weekend at the domestic box office. Given that the film will likely make its budget back in relatively quick fashion, along with the fact that there’s plenty of source material to pull from, a sequel could easily happen, though this has not yet been confirmed at this time.

What is Five Nights at Freddy’s About?

“The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouse brings Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen,” the movie’s synopsis reads. “The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be easy to make it through.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, Mary Stuart Masterson, Lucas Grant, and Jessica Blackmore. The screenplay comes from Tammi, Seth Cuddeback, and Scott Cawthon, the latter of whom created the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. Cawthon and Jason Blum both serve as producers.

Speaking further about Josh Hutcherson’s role in the film, Tammi said, “We went through an intensive process for this role, because he really anchors the whole film. I talked to Josh early on and we just kept coming back to him. He had such a grasp for the character and gave Mike a real lived-in feeling, which was what the character needed. I’m excited for people to see Josh in a slightly new light.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s opens in theaters and on Peacock on October 27, 2023, from Universal Pictures.
