Rosebushpruning: Kristen Stewart-Led Movie Sets Production Start Date

According to World of Reel, Kristen Stewart’s upcoming Rosebushpruning will reportedly start filming in the spring of 2024. The project is set to be a remake of Marco Bellocchio’s classic 1965 Italian dark comedy Fists in the Pocket.

Who’s involved in Rosebushpruning movie?

Rosebushpruning will be directed by Karim Aïnouz, whose most recent period drama Firebrand made its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The English remake is being written by The Lobster’s Efthimis Filippou, with The Match Factory and MUBI producing the project. Joining Stewart are Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (The Crown) and Emmy nominee Elle Fanning (The Great).

“In the claustrophobic confines of a rural estate, a family struggles with their tangled web of hereditary diseases,” reads the synopsis. “Among them is Alessandro, a young man with epilepsy and paranoid tendencies. […] Alessandro’s obsessive nature takes a dark turn when a series of dreadful accidents and murders is set into motion. The chilling sequence begins with the intentional act of pushing their blind, religious mother into a ravine. This sinister act is followed by the elimination of Leone, the intellectually disabled brother. Throughout this macabre scheme, Alessandro grapples with his own desires, including an unsettling inclination towards incestuous impulses with his sister, Giulia.”

The original 1965 movie is described as a significant part of Italian cinema which tells a dark satire of family and social values. Starring Lou Castel, the film centered around a young epileptic man who is planning to murder his dysfunctional family.
