Chris Evans: Steve Rogers MCU Comeback ‘Feels a Little Too Soon’

Chris Evans hasn’t been shy about a Steve Rogers MCU comeback happening down the line. However, the actor does feel it’s still a bit too soon for the original Captain America to return.

Speaking during a recent appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, Evans was asked how he’d feel about returning as Captain America. Evans reiterated that he’d love a Steve Rogers MCU comeback, but because the character is so special, the story would have to be right.

“Oh man, you know, as much as I would love to. That was such a special time in my life,” said Evans. “I’m very precious with the character. That’s the problem. I’m so protective of it. To come back, it would have to be for the right reasons, [and the] right timing. It feels a little too soon. Anthony Mackie is Captain America right now. There are other stories to tell. For now, we ended on such a good note. I would be too worried about tarnishing.”

Evan’s comments mirror those he made earlier this month about a Steve Rogers MCU comeback, where he told a crowd at C2E2 2023 that he thinks there are more “Steve Rogers stories to tell” but that it “doesn’t quite feel right” to return to the character so soon after his departure.

His last appearance came in Avengers: Endgame, where after helping the Avengers defeat Thanos, Rogers went back in time to return Infinity Stones that they had taken from other universes. Instead of returning, though, he stayed back in time, electing to live out his life with Peggy Carter and appearing as a much older man at the end of the film.
