James Gunn: Less Than Half of DCU Chapter 1 Has Been Announced

Through Twitter, James Gunn has revealed more details about the DCU and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, including that we don’t know the full DCU Chapter 1 lineup.

Many of the questions asked of Gunn were replies to a picture of the antagonist of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — the High Evolutionary, played by Chukwudi Iwuji. The tweet’s caption states that the director can’t wait for fans to meet the character in the movie.

One user asked about how much of the slate for the DCU’s first chapter has been announced. Gunn revealed that less than half of the slate has been revealed, meaning quite a few DC projects that will be part of Chapter 1 have still not been shown.

Another fan was discussing the idea of Matthew Lillard, who Gunn worked with on 2002’s Scooby-Doo, being in the DCU. When the fan said they’d like to see Lillard play the DC hero Plastic Man, Gunn responded and revealed that he and Lillard actually spoke with the head of Warner Bros. — Lorenzo di Bonaventura — about making a Plastic Man movie at that time.

Finally, Gunn clarified that the final full Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer has been released and that only ads and similar smaller videos are left to be released ahead of the sequel’s premiere.

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
