Girls Trip 2 Confirmed, Main Quartet Set to Return

During an interview at the Sundance Film Festival (via Variety), Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver finally confirmed that the long-in-development sequel to the 2017 female-led comedy is officially moving forward.

Oliver went on to reveal that Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish are still attached to reprise their respective roles as Ryan, Sasha, Lisa, and Dina. Girls Trip 2 will see the main quartet traveling to Ghana to attend the annual Afrochella festival.

Girls Trip was directed and produced by Malcolm D. Lee (Space Jam: A New Legacy) from a screenplay written by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver. The film centered around four best friends from college who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival in an attempt to rekindle their friendship. In addition to Hall, Latifah, Pinkett Smith, and Haddish, the film also starred Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, Mike Epps, Deborah Ayorinde, Lara Grice, and Kofi Siriboe.

Girls Trip was produced by Universal Pictures and Will Packer (Ride Along), with James Lopez and Preston Holmes serving as executive producers. Since its debut in 2017, it garnered critical acclaim and commercial success with a gross of over $140 million at the worldwide box office.
