Zoe Saldaña Felt Bitter at the Start of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

It’s no secret that the upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be the final film with the Guardians team that fans have come to know and love. According to actress Zoe Saldaña, this led to some bitter feelings in the beginning.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Saldaña mentioned that as the crew behind the film began filming, she did feel some bitterness knowing that this could be the last time she stepped into the role of Gamora. However, that feeling quickly faded, with Saldaña saying it was fun to get to work with familiar faces and continue the journey of the character.

“[Filming] started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you’re anticipating the end, but I’m just so happy that once again I got to work with great people,” said Saldaña. “I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say.”

While it’s unknown if Saldaña will return in future MCU projects, it seems almost certain that it will be the last time she, as well as the rest of the cast of the Guardians franchise, will appear in their own standalone film as a team. Earlier this year, director James Gunn confirmed that the third film would be “the end” of the team as we know it, calling it “the last time people will see this team of Guardians.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by Gunn. It features the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel as they reprise their respective roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot.

Joining them are MCU newcomers Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji, with Poulter confirmed to be playing the role of Adam Warlock. Before the space-traveling team makes their return to the big screen, their Disney+ holiday special is set to debut on November 25, 2022.
