After some fairly tepid recent weeks at the domestic box office, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stepped up to the plate with his latest feature, DC’s Black Adam, and absolutely dominated. The superhero epic soared to an impressive $67M domestic opening, the highest of the Rock’s career, according to Deadline, and a massive $140M global haul. The pic earned $10.8M from Imax sales and will have a few weekends to conquer before Black Panther 2 steals its thunder in November.

The $67M is on par with 2018’s Aquaman, which eventually legged out to $1.143B worldwide, and some $15M ahead of the debut weekend of Shazam! ($53M in 2019).
Elsewhere, George Clooney and Julia Roberts managed to power Ticket to Paradise to $16.34M in its opening domestic frame. Worldwide, the romantic comedy has earned $96M.
Meanwhile, Smile, the horror flick that just won’t quit, collected another $8.35M to raise its domestic total to $84.3M. Worldwide, the Paramount pic has collected $166M.
