Avengers: Secret Wars Taps Loki Writer for Upcoming MCU Blockbuster

It has been nearly five months since the theatrical release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and now writer Michael Waldron has officially found his next project with Marvel Studios.  According to Deadline, Waldron has been tapped to pen the highly-anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars. Besides the Doctor Strange sequel, he also previously worked with Marvel as the head writer for the first season of Loki.

Before landing high-profile projects, Waldron is best known for his work on the popular adult animated series Rick and Morty, in which he formerly served as a writer and producer. Apart from Secret Wars, he’s also teaming up with Kevin Feige for his untitled Star Wars film.

Secret Wars is the sixth installment to the blockbuster Avengers films. It is expected to conclude Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 and The Multiverse Saga. Fans have long been awaiting news of a potential live-action adaptation of the iconic comic book series, which sees various Marvel heroes and villains being taken by a cosmic entity known as The Beyonder, where they then fight it out on a planet called Battleworld.

Unlike Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Secret Wars currently has no director attached to it yet. Following The Kang Dynasty‘s theatrical debut on May 2, 2025, it will shortly be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.
