James Gunn Gives Update on Harley Quinn’s DCEU Future

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Harley Quinn’s debut in Batman: The Animated Series, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn took to Twitter to share his love for the fan-favorite anti-hero. He went on to describe Harley Quinn as a character that he enjoys writing, directing, and creating stories for.

Under his post, a curious fan asked him about Harley Quinn’s potential return to the DCEU. Gunn directly answered the question with a short and sweet “Yes.” Given the DCEU’s current complicated situation, it’s understandable why fans are worried that Margot Robbie’s beloved version of the character might never appear in a DC film again. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all, as Gunn seemingly confirms Quinn will continue to be part of the DCEU.

Gunn first worked with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the 2021 superhero sequel The Suicide Squad, which also starred John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Joel Kinnaman, Maylin Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Deigo Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Brage, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba.

The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker most recently portrayed an animated version of himself in the popular HBO Max series Harley Quinn. Besides Peacemaker season two, his other plans with DC are still being kept under wraps.
