Andrew Garfield Responds to Spider-Man: No Way Home Fake-Butt Claims

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this year, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland set off an internet frenzy by teasing that one of the three Spider-Man actors (himself, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield) was wearing a fake butt inside of their costumes.

In a new interview with Seth, Andrew Garfield has acknowledged the rumors, and denied it was him that was sporting any fake modifications.

“All I know is that I am totally unmodified,” Garfield said when the topic was brought up. “And that’s all I can share.” When asked about why Garfield believes Holland would put that information out there, Garfield joked that Holland was just very good at marketing, and couldn’t help himself when it came to dropping bits of information.

“He’s just stirring the pot, old Tom. He can’t help himself,” said Garfield. “There’s an expression that we have in entertainment, which is that we want to put bums on seats. We want to get the audience sat and paying their tickets. Tom is pretty great at creating the subgenres of games for you all while you’re in the cinema going, ‘Well, that butt doesn’t look real.’ ‘Tobey’s looks like it might be real.’ ‘Could Andrew have that much a–? Maybe. Potentially.'”

Spider-Man: No Way Home is led by Tom Holland as the beloved titular wall-crawler, along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. It was directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress (Tag) along with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe alums Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans.
