Universal Plans The Lonely Island Feature

The Lonely Island — the musical trio that includes Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — are prepping a film at Universal Pictures. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct the feature, said to be “set in the music world.”

Best known for their work on “Saturday Night Live,” The Lonely Island first found fame with the music video sketch “D*ck in a Box.” The Lonely Island has gone on to release three studio albums, “Incredibad,” “Turtleneck & Chain,” and “The Wack Album.” They also teamed for the 2007 comedy, Hot Rod, directed by Schaffer and starring Samberg and Taccone.

The new film will be produced by Judd Apatow and the trio. Erik Baiers will oversee for Universal.
