Jim Belushi Joins Courtney Hunt’s The Whole Truth

Likely Story announced today that Jim Belushi will join Keanu Reeves, Renée Zellweger, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gabriel Basso in the courtroom drama The Whole Truth, directed by Oscar nominee Courtney Hunt. The film began production this week in New Orleans.

Defense attorney Richard Ramsay (Reeves), faces a hopeless case defending seventeen-year old Mike Lassiter (Basso) who’s charged with murder. The evidence against him is substantial: a knife with his finger prints and a near confession. On top of that, Mike hasn’t spoken a word since the day of the crime. With no information from his client and little to work off of otherwise, Ramsay enlists the help of Janelle (Mbatha-Raw), a young lawyer determined to find out the truth about what happened that day. Jim Belushi plays Mike’s father and Renée Zellweger plays his mother.

“I’m drawn to stories that are as complex as reality,” says Hunt, “and I gravitate towards actors capable of multi-layered performances, who reveal the chaos and truth of life by reaching for those emotionally unexpected places. I’ve always been a big fan of Jim Belushi and am excited to bring out a side of him audiences haven’t seen before.”

Anthony Bregman will produce for Likely Story and Kevin Frakes will produce for PalmStar Entertainment. Merced Media Partners is co-financing, FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales and CAA is handling domestic.
