Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill Eye the Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar!

Scarlett Johansson is the latest name said to be eyeing a leading role in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Hail Caesar. Variety reports that the Lucy star is likely to join George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes for the period comedy. TheWrap, meanwhile, reports that Jonah Hill is in talks as well.

Hail Caesar follows a man named Eddie Mannix in his job as a Hollywood fixer in the 1950s. Johansson will play an actress who becomes pregnant just before production begins on a major motion picture (a fitting role for Johansson, who revealed her own pregnancy earlier this year). Hill’s potential role has not yet been disclosed.

Johansson previously appeared in the Coens’ black and white The Man Who Wasn’t There as a 17-year-old ingenue.

Clooney previously dubbed Hail Caesar the conclusion of his “idiot trilogy,” with the Coens, following 2000’s O Brother, Where Art Thou? and 2003’s Intolerable Cruelty. Of course, since then he starred in their Burn After Reading, so the “trilogy” bit may now be a misnomer.
