Fruits Basket -Prelude- Gets New Character Art for Tohru’s Parents

New details on the upcoming Fruits Basket -prelude- have come to light, including new character art for Tohru’s parents, as well as details about the theme song for the film.

Two new pieces of character art have been revealed, with the first being Kyoko Honda, who will be voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. The next is Katsuya Hondo, who will voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya. The two characters are Tohru’s mother and father, who the film will focus on primarily. You can check out the new art below:

Alongside the new art, it was also announced that the film would debut alongside a recap of the most recent anime series, as well as an adaptation of the manga’s “Kyoko to Katsuya no Monogatari” (“The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya”) chapter for fans who aren’t all caught up. Information on the theme song for the film has also been released. Singer-songwriter Ohashi Trio will be performing the theme song, “Niji to Kaito (Rainbow and Kite),” for the film.

The film opens in theaters on February 18 in Japan, which is the same day the Blu-ray disc will release. At the moment, there’s no word on when Fruits Basket -prelude- will come west, or if it will receive an English dub.

The 2019-2021 series of Fruits Basket can be streamed in its entirety on both Funimation and Crunchyroll. The original manga first debuted in 1998, with the first anime adaption airing back in 2001. Fruits Basket tells the story of a young girl named Tohru, who ends up meeting the various boys of the Soma clan, but learns that they’re each possessed by an animal of the Chinese Zodiac.
