Baz Luhrmann Eyes Elvis Presley Biopic at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is moving forward with a big screen biopic about Elvis Presley and, according to a story today at TheWrap, are in negotiations with Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rogue!, The Great Gatsby) to direct.

Currently untitled, the Elvis biopic is being scripted by Kelly Marcel, best known for Saving Mr. Banks and the upcoming big screen adaptation of the bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey. It has not yet been revealed whether or not the project will target a specific era of Presley’s life, although Warner Bros. is said to have already sorted out rights access to the musician’s full music library.

Luhrmann was also recently said to be eyeing the director’s chair on Universal big screen version of the ’70s television series Kung Fu.

The untitled Elvis biopic will be produced by Tecumseh Productions’ Gail Berman with Whalerock Industries’ Andrew Mittman executive producing. Courtenay Valenti will oversee for Warner Bros.
