Macarena Achaga will be joining Andy Garcia in the upcoming Father of the Bride reboot, according to a report from Deadline.
Achaga is the latest to join the film, which is set to be directed by Gaz Alazraki and with a script written by Matt Lopez. The film will revolve around a Cuban-American family, with a father coming to grips with his daughter’s upcoming wedding through the prism of multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American family.
According to the report, the film will be more of a rom-com than previous versions of the film. It’ll also be more in the vein of the original Spencer Tracy film rather than the Steve Martin-led version.
Macarena will play the role of the stepmother to the groom, with Gloria Estefan set to play Andy Garcia’s wife and Adria Arjona cast to play the bride of the film. Diego Boneta is on board to play the groom in the film. Father of the Bride will be produced by Plan-B Entertainment, with Garcia and Paul Perez attached to executive produce the film.
