The Tomorrow War: Amazon Nabs Rights to Chris Pratt’s Action Sci-Fi Pic

Amazon Studios has successfully acquired the worldwide distribution rights to Paramount Pictures’ upcoming action sci-fi film The Tomorrow War. The acquisition deal reportedly cost the streamer around $200 million. Originally scheduled for a July 23, 2021 release, the Chris Pratt-led feature will now be making its debut on July 2, 2021, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The Tomorrow War was first set for a theatrical debut. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, the film’s release was delayed ultimately rescheduled to this year. This marks the latest partnership between Paramount and Amazon, after the streamer had previously nabbed the rights to the studio’s Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, which will be available for streaming later this month.

“The Tomorrow War will be a global event that will surprise and delight our customers around the world,” Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “Director Chris McKay has brilliantly crafted this unique, action-packed sci-fi escape that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats and tug on their heart strings with its father-daughter storyline. We couldn’t be happier to continue our relationship with Chris Pratt—who brings such dynamic star power to the film—along with David Ellison and the Skydance team, as we share this exciting film with fans.”

In The Tomorrow War, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species.
