Justin Simien’s Bad Hair Coming to Drive-Ins Prior to Hulu Debut

Though specific theaters have yet to be announced, the indie production company is eyeing the New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, New Orleans, Detroit, Austin, Sacramento and Las Vegas drive-in markets. Following its mostly positive debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, Hulu acquired the rights to the horror-comedy in a multi-million dollar deal.

In this horror satire set in 1989, the film follows an ambitious young woman (Elle Lorraine) who gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career comes at a great cost when she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own.

The ensemble cast for the film includes Elle Lorraine (Insecure), Vanessa Williams (T.O.T.S.), Lena Waithe (Westworld), Laverne Cox (Charlie’s Angels), Jay Pharoah (Unsane), Kelly Rowland (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Blair Underwood (When They See Us), James Van Der Beek (Pose) and Usher Raymond (Hustlers).
