James Spader’s casting as Ultron in The Avengers sequel has been one of the most welcomed casting announcements of late for fans. In fact, over 65% of voters selected “I love James Spader” or “I trust Marvel” as their opinions on the casting in our SHH poll. Unlike the reactions to Ben Affleck as Batman, the positivity regarding Spader isn’t the only difference in the upcoming Avengers and Man of Steel sequels.
In the below video released by Marvel, writer/director Joss Whedon is quoted about casting Spader in Avengers: Age of Ultron, who he says was his only choice.
“Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous. Ultron is not Hal (from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break The Avengers into pieces.”
Featuring favorites from the first “Avengers” film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen, Avengers: Age of Ultron will open in theaters on May 1, 2015.
