In an interview with People Magazine, writer/director Elizabeth Banks discussed how the song “Independent Women” by Destiny’s Child was a huge influence for the new theme song and the film, and though she was unable to reveal the track’s name, she did send a lot of praise towards her pop trio.

“I feel really grateful that this incredible group of artists took inspiration from these films as well and felt like working together as women, and [it] thematically matched up with the exact movie that we were making. I’m thrilled that three of my favorite artists ended up doing a song for the film. It’s really exciting. I can’t wait for people to see it, actually in full, in the film and to hear it when the single drops.”

In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere.

The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn. The cast also includes breakout star Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Jonathan Tucker (Westworld), Sam Claflin (Adrift) as well as Patrick Stewart, Djimon Hounsou, and Banks who are all reportedly playing the role of “Bosley” in the project. How that will work remains to be seen.

The franchise began with a TV show that ran from 1976-1981 starring Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. There were two films, Charlie’s Angels in 2000 and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle in 2003, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The new film will serve as a sequel to both the series and the films.

Charlie’s Angels is set to make its debut on November 15.
