In more Jake Gyllenhaal news, the 32-year-old actor may not be playing the Prince in Walt Disney Pictures’ Cinderella musical Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall, after all, because his indie thriller Nightcrawler, directed by The Bourne Legacy co-screenwriter Dan Gilroy, has just been given the go-ahead.
According to The Wrap, scheduling conflicts forced the actor to choose between the two very different projects and Gyllenhaal went with Gilroy’s directorial debut, which looks to start shooting for five weeks in early October. Another reason for the decision may be that Gyllenhaal is producing the thriller along with Dan’s brother Tony Gilroy, Jennifer Fox, and Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films.
In the film, Gyllenhaal will play “a small-time Los Angeles criminal who gets a little too swept up in the nocturnal world of the city’s crime journalism community.”
As mentioned earlier, Gyllenhaal will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, alongside Hugh Jackman.
Into the Woods is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2014 with or without Gyllenhaal–the film’s stars Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep should be fine.
