Chase Palmer, who wrote the blockbuster adaptation of It, will sit in the director’s chair and help work on a script written by David Matthews (Vinyl). Scott Free Productions is producing the film with 3311 Productions and Tony Ganz.

The story, based on the novel of the same name from Sergio de la Pava, follows Cast, a young public defender who begins to question everything after he loses a case and chooses to rob a $75 million drug deal from a client. The novel “explores the American criminal justice system,” and served as the debut novel for De La Pava, who has gone on to write “Personae,” “Lost Empress,” and the article “A Day’s Sail.”

Cooke has been enjoying a wave of success for just over five years now, starting with a lead role in the acclaimed A&E psychological thriller series Bates Motel followed by roles in the acclaimed indie dramedy Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, the box office hit horror film Ouija, the praised dark comedy Thoroughbreds and the blockbuster adventure Ready Player One.
