Adam Shankman Rejoining Vin Diesel for MGM’s The Machine

Anyone who has been waiting with baited breath for the reunion of The Pacifier director Adam Shankman with that hit family film’s star Vin Diesel may finally get their wish, as it’s being reported by Deadline that Shankman (Hairspray, Rock of Ages) is replacing Peter Segal (Get Smart) as the director of Diesel’s action-comedy The Machine for MGM.

Not to be confused with Caradog James’ film The Machine, which is premiering at the 12th Annual Tribeca Film Festival next week, the movie has Diesel playing a “human-like machine” (i.e. a cyborg) created by the Pentagon as a weapon before being decommissioned and buried for twenty years. The Machine is then found by a kid who befriends him and he ends up having to protect the family once the government discovers he’s been reactivated.

The original screenplay was written by the Night at the Museum team of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garrant with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wanted) brought in for a recent rewrite. Diesel will be producing under his One Race Films banner co-produced by Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Shankman’s production partner Jennifer Gibgot as executive producer.
