As we’ve already mentioned, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype spent Sunday morning at the Hasbro showroom being given a tour of the upcoming toy lines and although we already posted a lot of stock pictures and the information we were able to get out of the press releases, we wanted to go a little more in-depth into some of the stuff we learned seeing the toys up close.
Our tour started at the “Transformers” line, which we didn’t have too much to talk about the first time, but we were greeted by the absolutely enormous Metroplex, which is rightfully being dubbed the “Biggest Transfomer Ever.” Having been introduced in the “Fall of Cybertron” video game, it is indeed enormous, something which is hard to tell from pictures, but we were told it would be available in the fall for roughly $125.
A big part of Hasbro’s upcoming initiative for “Transformers” is to follow the popular Hub cartoon show “Transformers: Prime” into its new “Beast Hunters” storyline with the third season in which the Autobots’ enemies the Decepticons are joined by dragon-like bots called Predacons. The entire line of Autobots has been modified and evolved to take on their new foes and while many of these are already available, in August, they’ll offer a larger-size electronic Beast Hunters Optimus Prime for $59.99 that includes a rotating five-barrel projectile Dragon Head cannon.
The other new way Hasbro is trying to make “Transformers” more fun for a new generation is their new line of “Construct-Bots,” which allows kids to collect and play with Transformers toys in a new way with each figure in the line including a skeleton with various pieces that can be snapped onto it and interchanged between the toys allowing you to create an unlimited amount of new robots. They have a full line of Contruct-Bots toys ranging from $9.99 to $34.99 that will be released in August
Our next stop was the Kre-O section, Habro’s building block toys, where we got to check out the ever-growing line of Transformers Kre-Os (which will soon include Micro-Changers that work similar to the Construct-Bots mentioned above).
The real exciting news in Kre-O land is that Hasbro now has the license for Star Trek and they had the new line of Star Trek Kre-O toys on display, which includes a number of vehicles and playsets, as well as a whole array of collectible Kre-Ons. We were given a demonstation of how the new Lighttech technology works in the Kre-O U.S.S. Enterprise which you can watch below. (That involves blocks in which you insert AAA batteries and no internal wiring in case you were wondering.) We also checked out the various playsets including one that seems to include the bad guy played by Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek Into Darkness, which you can see at left or in its playset here. Doesn’t give us any idea if this is a known character from Star Trek history or not, but he’s in there as is a large variety of characters from the TV shows and movies that will be rolled out over the coming year.
