ND/NF 2009: Cold Souls & Unmade Beds

Starting tonight and over the next two weeks, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) will once again be teaming up to present their annual film series, New Directors/New Films ’09, a showcase of new filmmakers and independent films by those whose films debuted at past ND/NF series. While there are a lot of films shown that have premiered at Sundance or other festivals, there’s always an eclectic mix of American and foreign films and documentaries that many might not have a chance to see otherwise, as well as films that will go onto be recognized with awards later in the year. (For instance, last year, the series showed Courtney Hunt’s Frozen River, which went onto be nominated for Oscars and win many other awards.)

You can read our take on a handful of the movies being screened this year in the latest Weekend Warrior.

ComingSoon.net spoke to two of the filmmakers whose work is being showcased in this year’s ND/NF series, both of whom we spoke to when their films premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year:

Sophie Barthes, Director of “Cold Souls”

Alexis dos Santos and Fernando Tielve, Director and Star of “Unmade Beds”

You can also read our earlier interview with Ondi Timoner, director of We LIve in Public, the series’ Closing Night Selection, and that film’s subject Josh Harris here.

New Directors/New Films ’09 will screen 25 films at the Walter Reade Theaters and MOMA in New York City between March 25 to April 5; you can see the full line-up and purchase tickets at FilmLinc.com.
