After years of waiting, we finally got a look at The Batman Part II’s first footage. On top of being exciting, the footage also dispels one of the biggest criticisms about Robert Pattinson’s role.
Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman in the movie, Other cast members from the original film likely returning include Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb/The Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Newcomers to the movie include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.
The Batman Part II will be released in the United States on February 18, 2028. While Pattinson’s role as Batman was praised in the first movie, many have used his age as a reason to argue that the films should stop soon, especially due to its massive delays. However, the new test footage we’ve seen should go a long way to shutting all that down.
Robert Pattinson looks as good as ever as Batman in new footage
It’s no secret that Pattinson is beloved by many as Batman. Despite only being in one movie, he’s quickly rocketed up the ranks of actors to play the iconic hero. After the success of the first movie, it also looked to be a great entry for Pattinson to keep playing the role. However, the sequel film has faced a litany of delays over the years, pushing back its release to now six years since the original came out.
While excitement still remains for The Batman Part II, many fans are wondering how many movies Pattinson has left as Batman. He’s now 40. Many fans, especially those excited for the future of James Gunn’s DCU, are hoping to see a much younger Batman in the fold soon, especially to match the ages and tone of things like Superman and Supergirl. However, just a few seconds of test footage show why all of these concerns are silly.
For starters, Pattinson still looks absolutely great as Batman. The brief footage we’re shown sees the hero amidst a snowy backdrop, turning to face the camera as police lights flash in the distance. Better yet, it doesn’t look like Pattinson’s aged even a little bit under the cowl. He still very much looks like the man he was in the first movie, and even though we may see an updated version of the Batsuit, Pattinson doesn’t look to have changed much.
On top of that, while 40 is an older age, it’s still fairly young all things considered and not too out of the ordinary for Batman. Many Batman interpretations have focused on a middle-aged Batman, and even though 40 is considered the start of middle age, Pattinson’s looks and lifestyle have him looking much less like a gruff older Batman and still capable of playing a Bruce Wayne in his 30s.
