As Above/So Below opens in theaters this Thursday evening from Legendary Pictures and Universal. Not only is it the first full-on horror film to come from Legendary since Trick ‘r Treat, its the latest project from the Dowdle brothers who have given us films like The Poughkeepsie Tapes, Quarantine and Devil.
To learn more about the film, ShockTillYouDrop.com ventured out to Paris, France where the film is set to not only speak to the Dowdles, but to stars Perdita Weeks and Ben Feldman (Friday the 13th, “Mad Men”) as well. And they did it in the very catacombs beneath the street of Paris where this supernatural tale unfolds.
In part one of Shock’s “catacombs discussion,” director John Erick Dowdle and co-writer/producer Drew Dowdle talk about emphasizing the adventure aspects of the story as much as the horror and the intense search they embarked on to find the right leading lady. Weeks and Feldman, meanwhile, report back that no major accidents happened on set in spite of the claustrophobic shooting conditions. They also shed a bit of light on their characters and what made their roles exciting.
