POLL: Can Another Actor Be Indiana Jones After Harrison Ford?

Let’s get this out of the way: Other people have played Indiana Jones. The late River Phoenix played a young Indy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, while Sean Patrick Flanery, Corey Carrier and George Hall portrayed him at various ages on ABC’s The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. However, after four movies and one TV show appearance the actor who has defined the role for nearly four decades is Harrison Ford. Could another star take up that mantle after Lucasfilm‘s upcoming Indiana Jones 5? Comingsoon.net wants to ask its readers this very question in our latest poll, as well as who they wish to see succeed Ford should the franchise go that way! Participate in both polls below!

“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that,” Spielberg previously said.

But who could ever replace Harrison Ford? The thing that made Ford so great in the role was not only his ability to embody the devil-may-care heroics of Indiana Jones, but also to believably pull off the Professor Jones side of his persona. In other words, the person who steps into his shoes has to have the brawn AND the brains to pull off one of the greatest screen heroes of all-time. Is there such an actor working today? Is it a fool’s errand to try to replace Ford, or is it inevitable? Does the character of Indiana Jones have the same flexibility to played by different actors as James Bond?

The last official word on the project was that Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Jonathan Kasdan would take over scripting duties on Indiana Jones 5, replacing Spielberg mainstay David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). However, recent rumors point to Dan Fogelman having replaced Kasdan and starting a whole new script. The sequel will see Spielberg teaming up once again with Harrison Ford, who is reprising his iconic role, as well as franchise producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

Spielberg previously promised one big thing for the fifth installment, while Bob Iger — Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm’s parent company Disney — has said that Indiana Jones 5 won’t be the last film.

Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to open on July 9, 2021.
